Double Wedding Ring quilt pattern

16" ring blocks: pieced arcs with cornerstones, melons and curved centers. Set side by side, every ring links with its neighbors.

The queen size is 88" × 104" with 30 blocks. Each size below has its own fabric list, cutting and backing, worked out for 42" fabric with ¼" seams, 10% extra and yardage rounded up to the next ¼ yard.

  • Centers, Border: Cut 2 strips 2" × WOF. Subcut 24 squares 2" for the cornerstones. Cut 4 strips 1¾" × WOF. Cut 48 pieces from Double Wedding Ring template D. Cut 5 strips 4½" × WOF. Join end to end. Cut 2 at 48½" and 2 at 40½".
  • Background: Cut 3 strips 14¼" × WOF. Cut 6 pieces from Double Wedding Ring template A. Cut 4 strips 6" × WOF. Cut 12 pieces from Double Wedding Ring template B.
  • Main, Binding: Cut 5 strips 1⅞" × WOF. Cut 48 pieces from Double Wedding Ring template C. Cut 2 strips 1¾" × WOF. Cut 24 pieces from Double Wedding Ring template D. Cut 5 strips 2½" × WOF. Join into one 204" strip.

Putting it together

  1. Make 6 Double Wedding Ring blocks, 16" finished (16½" with seam allowance). That takes 6 Double Wedding Ring blocks.
  2. Lay out the blocks in 3 rows of 2. Sew the rows, pressing the seams in opposite directions from row to row, then join the rows.
  3. Add the 4" border: measure through the middle of the quilt, sew strips to the sides first, then to the top and bottom.
  4. Layer the backing (48" × 64"), batting and top, quilt, and trim. Join the binding strips end to end, press them in half lengthwise and sew to the front.

  2. Lay out the blocks in 4 rows of 3. Sew the rows, pressing the seams in opposite directions from row to row, then join the rows.
  3. Add the 4" border: measure through the middle of the quilt, sew strips to the sides first, then to the top and bottom.
  4. Layer the backing (64" × 80"), batting and top, quilt, and trim. Join the binding strips end to end, press them in half lengthwise and sew to the front.
