Putting it together

  1. Make 12 Star of Virginia blocks, 10" finished (10½" with seam allowance). That takes 96 half-square triangles and 48 half-square triangles.
  2. Lay the blocks on point in diagonal rows, with plain setting squares between them, setting triangles along the sides and corner triangles at the corners. Sew each diagonal row, then join the rows.
  3. Add the 4" border: measure through the middle of the quilt, sew strips to the sides first, then to the top and bottom.
