Log Cabin quilt block
Four rounds of logs around a center square, light on two sides and dark on the other two. Each log is a tenth of the block wide and the center is twice that.
The Log Cabin is pieced on a 10 × 10 grid, so a 12½" block has 1¼" grid squares.

How to sew a 12½" Log Cabin block
Start with the 3" center square. Sew the shortest light log to its top and press away from the center.
Work around the center clockwise: a light log down the left side, then dark logs along the bottom and the right side. Each log is as long as the side it goes on: 3", 4¼", 4¼", 5½", 5½", 6¾", 6¾", 8", 8", 9¼", 9¼", 10½", 10½", 11¾", 11¾", 13".
Repeat for four rounds, pressing every seam away from the center. The block measures 12½" finished, 13" with seam allowance.
