Snowball quilt block

A large square with a small triangle on each corner, sewn stitch-and-flip from squares a third of the block wide. The corners of neighboring blocks meet in on-point squares.

The Snowball is pieced on a 1 × 1 grid, so a 12" block has 12" grid squares.

How to sew a 12" Snowball block

  1. Make 1 stitch-and-flip unit, 12" finished. Lay a 4½" background square on each corner of a 12½" main square, sew corner to corner, trim ¼" past the seam and press.

  2. Lay out the units as drawn. Sew them into sections where the seams run straight across, then join the sections. The block measures 12" finished, 12½" with seam allowance.
