Square in a Square quilt block
A square set on point inside another square: one square with a stitch-and-flip triangle on each corner, each corner square half the block wide.
The Square in a Square is pieced on a 1 × 1 grid, so a 12" block has 12" grid squares.
Also called Diamond in a Square.

How to sew a 12" Square in a Square block

Make 1 stitch-and-flip unit, 12" finished. Lay a 6½" background square on each corner of a 12½" main square, sew corner to corner, trim ¼" past the seam and press.
Lay out the units as drawn. Sew them into sections where the seams run straight across, then join the sections. The block measures 12" finished, 12½" with seam allowance.
