How to sew a 12" Dresden Plate block

  1. Cut 20 blades from template A. Fold each blade in half lengthwise, right sides together, and sew across the wide end with ¼" seam. Turn the point right side out and press it flat with the seam centered.

  2. Sew the blades together side by side along their long edges, alternating fabrics, until the 20 blades make a ring. Press the seams open.

  3. Center the plate on the 12½" background square and appliqué the outer edge. Turn under the center circle (template B) and appliqué it over the middle. The block measures 12" finished, 12½" with seam allowance.
