Storm at Sea quilt block
Square-in-a-square corners, diamond-in-a-rectangle sides and an Economy block in the middle, on a four-by-four grid. Every seam is straight, but set together the diamonds look like waves.
The Storm at Sea is pieced on a 4 × 4 grid, so a 12" block has 3" grid squares.

Cut sizes include ¼" seam allowances. Template pieces show the rectangle each one needs on the strip.
How to sew a 12" Storm at Sea block
Make four small square-in-a-square units for the corners: sew triangles from the 2⅜" squares to the 2⅝" squares, two sides at a time.
Make the center like an Economy block: the 3½" square, then triangles from the 3" squares, then triangles from the 3⅞" squares.
Make four diamond-in-a-rectangle units from templates: sew the long triangles to opposite sides of the diamond, then the other two. Sew the block in three rows: corner, rectangle, corner; rectangle, center, rectangle; corner, rectangle, corner.
