California king quilt size

A california king quilt is 104" × 112". A california king mattress is 72" × 84", so this size hangs 16" over each side and 16" over the foot, with 12" left to tuck over the pillows.

A California king mattress is 4" narrower and 4" longer than a king. A king quilt fits it with 2" more drop at the sides and 4" less at the foot, so many quilters use the king size.

California king quilt sizes for a longer or shorter drop

The drop is how far the quilt hangs past the mattress. Measure from the top of your mattress down to where you want the quilt to stop; most mattresses today are 10" to 14" deep. Add the drop to both sides for the width and once for the length, then add 10" if the quilt should tuck over the pillows.

Blocks for a 104" × 112" quilt

Blocks keep their size and the count changes, so the quilt lands near 104" × 112" rather than on it. Each row is worked out with a 4" border; the second column adds 2" sashing between the blocks.
