Queen size quilt dimensions

A queen quilt is 90" × 108". A queen mattress is 60" × 80", so this size hangs 15" over each side and 15" over the foot, with 13" left to tuck over the pillows.

Queen is the most common bed in the United States, and the size most patterns print first. Store-bought queen quilts are often smaller, around 86" × 86" to 90" × 92", made to just cover the mattress sides.

Queen quilt sizes for a longer or shorter drop

The drop is how far the quilt hangs past the mattress. Measure from the top of your mattress down to where you want the quilt to stop; most mattresses today are 10" to 14" deep. Add the drop to both sides for the width and once for the length, then add 10" if the quilt should tuck over the pillows.

Blocks for a 90" × 108" quilt

Blocks keep their size and the count changes, so the quilt lands near 90" × 108" rather than on it. Each row is worked out with a 4" border; the second column adds 2" sashing between the blocks.
