Crib quilt size

A crib quilt is 45" × 60". A crib mattress is 28" × 52", so this size hangs 8.5" over each side and 8" over the foot.

Most crib quilts are made for the wall, the floor or a toddler bed. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises keeping quilts, blankets and pillows out of the crib for babies under 12 months.

Crib quilt sizes for a longer or shorter drop

The drop is how far the quilt hangs past the mattress. Measure from the top of your mattress down to where you want the quilt to stop; most mattresses today are 10" to 14" deep. Add the drop to both sides for the width and once for the length, then add 10" if the quilt should tuck over the pillows.

Blocks for a 45" × 60" quilt

Blocks keep their size and the count changes, so the quilt lands near 45" × 60" rather than on it. Each row is worked out with a 4" border; the second column adds 2" sashing between the blocks.
