LeMoyne Star quilt block

Eight 45° diamonds meeting in the center, with four squares and four triangles set into the gaps. All eight diamonds are the same, so one template cuts them all.

Also called Lemon Star and Eight-Pointed Star.

How to sew a 12" LeMoyne Star block

  1. Sew the diamonds in pairs, stopping ¼" from the outer edge, then join pairs into halves and the halves into the star. The center seam is the hardest: pin the points so all eight meet.

  2. Set in the 4⅛" corner squares and the side triangles (cut from a 6¼" square twice on the diagonal) with Y seams: sew from the outer edge in to the dot ¼" from the inside corner, then pivot and sew the second side.
