How to sew a 48" Lone Star block

  1. Cut strips as wide as the small diamond is tall plus ½" and sew them into strip sets, each strip offset one diamond from the last. Cut the sets at 45° to make rows of diamonds, then sew four rows together for each of the eight large diamonds, matching seams at the points.

  2. Sew the diamonds in pairs, stopping ¼" from the outer edge, then join pairs into halves and the halves into the star. The center seam is the hardest: pin the points so all eight meet.

  3. Set in the 14⅝" corner squares and the side triangles (cut from a 21¼" square twice on the diagonal) with Y seams: sew from the outer edge in to the dot ¼" from the inside corner, then pivot and sew the second side.
